In the final year of the Bakumatsu, wandering mercenary Yojiro Akizuki travels throughout Japan. While he uses his sword in the usual fashion, it also helps him locate supernatural items, which he pursues with single-minded determination. During his quest, he encounters a traveling theater group whose members have their own dark agenda, including revenge. Everyone soon wonders if this was a chance meeting or the result of an undiscovered conspiracy.
